History of the company

Achaika Plastics is an Anonymous Society plastics packaging company established on 1984 after the merge of the following companies :

Thanassoulias Bros Ltd. Founded in 1960.

Thanassoulias and Sons founded in 1956.

Imports - Exports I. Thanassoulias Ltd. Founded in 1965.
In our days there are 3 production factories. The first one (and the central offices) are located at South - West of Greece, in town of Egion and the other two factories, at North - East of Greece in Komotini town. The area in which Achaika Plastics lays total, (with offices and warehouses at capital of Greece in Athens) is 65,500 square meters.

The Factories

In Achaika Plastics are occupied about 110 permanent workers in various segments of the factory and there is the intention to absorb as many people as possible fact that offers breathing.
Nowadays Achaika Plastics is the leading independent polythene film producer in Greece and the first Plastic Company in Greece that has environmental ISO 14001 (Cert. No 36181) and ISO 9001:2000 (Cert. No 4836). The whole procedure of production is done with the latest equipments in control and technology. There are four departments fully equipped and functional.

Extrusion.
For more than 30 years we have been offering customers our expertise in extrusion. The quality of our products can be attributed to the excellent performance of our machinery, our quality controls and our employees expertise.

Process control is of prime importance whatever the film: agricultural film (silage films, greenhousing films), industrial films (Shrink films, Thermo shring, automatic films, stretch films, and technical films) or tubular films designed for retail applications.
Our equipment, which includes mono or multilayer extruders, allows us to offer to our customers a wide range of products and can it can therefore meet all their requirements from volume to variety.

Printing
We can print our films up to 8 colours in flexographic printing. Our films are used by every sector in the packaging industry. We are also involved in follow-up work and assistance regarding printing designs.

Conversion
2 billion bags are manufactured every year in our plants . These products are mainly bags designed for the retail trade : Vest - style carrier bags , Bags on the roll, Garbage bags and industrial bags. Some of them are labeled with a national and international certificate ( Carrefoure ...) and all of these bags can be printed up to 6 colors.

Technical assistance and quality control
In order to provide our customers with the best quality, we particularly pay attention to the needs of our customers and we carry out controls throughout the production process.

Our equipment which includes single or multi layer extruders allows us to offer to our customers a wide range of products and we can meet all their requirements. Big bag. Big Bag knitted bags with belts with factor of safety 5:1 & 6:1.

GREENHOUSING FILMS

Our products, which are 3 layer coextruded, are UV - stabilised for 33 or 45 months. They are available in different film formulations and well adapted to the conditions of use. MULCH FILMS. Our range is designed for the mulching of soils.

Supermarkets - Hotels:

Bags for the retail trade
CHECK - OUT CARRIER BAGS, are available in different types : vest-style carrier bags, blockheaded carrier bags . They can be transparent or tinted and printed up to 6 colours
BAGS ON THE ROLL, are especially developed for use on self-service dispensers
GARBAGE BAGS, we offer a very wide range of refuse bags on the roll , in virgin material or recycled material, in a large range of sizes. These products can be manufactured in several colours, printed or plain, and packed with paper bands in printed polyethylene sleeves
FLEXI-LOOP CARRIER BAGS, such large carriers, monoextruded or coextruded, can be customized by a tint or a print up to 8 colours.

Our industry is clean .The raw material polyetylene is made up of carbon and hydrogen which is chemically neutral and doesn't release any noxious substance into the environment. To day the environment is a great concern. Our industry is committed to the protection of the environment and therefore , for than 15 years, we have been paying attention to the recycling of all our production waste.
Proof of this can be seen in the ISO 14001 CERTIFICATE which was obtained in September 1999 .

Technical Support

The technical maintenance team is constituted from the most experienced persons who know well the demands of the market and the development of the technology, specifically related to raw materials and the equipment of packing. They have excellent communication skills and they will be happy to discuss your demands in order to assure your satisfaction.

Research and Development

The Research and Development team is in close cooperation with the technical management as well as with the marketing and sales management and the department of technical support.

The aim of the research and development team is the consideration and the production of innovative products, which guarantee to our customers advantages in quality, cost and production. The accomplishment of these objectives is beefed up by:

The investment in multilayered technology with on line checks in concerns the quality of the productive film.
The huge database in which the performance and the characteristics of a variety structured films is recorded.
The laboratory equipment of the quality check that follows:

Meter Electronic Thickness Thwing-Albert.
Microscope of high resolution.
Meter of mechanic characteristics Thwing-Albert.
Meter of the thermal film shrinkage apparatus of polythene according to ASTM D 2732.
Tester in collision according to ASTM D 1709.
Elmendorf tear strength tester according to ASTM D 1922.
Tester in perforation with Davenport.
Measurement of the friction coefficient according to ASTM D 1894.
Evaluation of the transparence and sheen.
