SAMOTHRAKI

    In an about 59 km perimeter, the divers visiting Samothraki will be given the opportunity to experience a truly vast field ready to be explored.

    Amongst the even and steep beaches, where great heights and great depths are united, the underwater world is in constant motion.

    The diver can see big shoals of Mediterranean fishes in sizes that would impress anyone.

    You will also come across wonderful underwater scenery with abrupt rocks and stones fading away in big blue, underwater caves, imposing ravines and reefs, with rich flora and fauna, which are visited by various big fish of open water (like tunas etc).

    It’s worth noting that Samothraki is situated on the edge of the Eastern European rift. Due to great see depth on the south and south-eastern side of the island we notice the appearance of big open water fishes and occasionally even dolphins and whales among other fish.

    Samothraki is one of the last sanctuaries of the seal Monachus – monachus, which known to be an endangered species.

    Another spare species to be sighted is the dolphin Phocoena – phocoena, which we meet only in the North Aegean and the Thrakian sea and nowhere else in the Mediterranean.
