Welcome

    Makryammos Bungalows takes up 30 acres of forest land leading to the bay by sea, 2 klm from the main port (Limenas) of Thassos. The compound consists of 40 buildings and 206 rooms (standard and superior) and suites in harmony with the surroundings, all with a view to the sea. The architecture is in harmony with the local style. The bungalows and all other buildings are built using the natural resources of the island, mainly local slates and marble from Thassos, and they all have their own private balcony with a view of the sea. They are surrounded by trees, both the forest of Makryammos as well as the gardens of the hotel, which are enriched with new plants every year. The sun and the moon rise in the horizon, the waters are crystal clear emerald and the private beach in front of the hotel is lit by silver sand.

 

    The main building is linked to the hotel's main restaurant "Dioskouri" and the bar "Nymphes". It houses the Front Office, the mini market as well as the common rooms where there is access to satellite television and wireless internet. The mini market is equipped with all necessary products for your summer stay, as well as cigarettes and international press.

 

    Across the main building is the beach, the pool with non-salt water and right next to it the Mini Club. In the middle of the beach is our Beach Bar "Ammos", where you can combine relaxation and shade during your stay at the beach. At the other end of the beach, among the rocks and the surrounding garden is the a la carte restaurant "Sirens".

 

    The hotel has parking areas for guest's cars, so you can park your vehicle in one of the designated areas located nearest your bungalow. Finally, 24 hour medical coverage is provided for emergency health incidents.

 

    Makryammos Bungalows functions in harmony with the international criteria of environmental management. The company aims to constantly improve its environmental policies in order to maintain the ecological equilibrium in the area.

 

    Consequently the company applies ISO 14000, the set of guidelines recommended by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the latest version of which was published in 1996. ISO 14000 is a system of environmental management to assist companies in the establishment of a methodology of management, aimed at the constant improvement of activities relevant to the environment and the ecosystem.

 

    The resort's beach is annually awarded the Blue Flag, the international symbol of quality which is now accepted by more than 40 countries. The Blue Flag is awarded following strict evaluation to public beaches and resorts managed by Municipalities as well as Hotels, resorts and other organizations. The greek affiliate and coordinator for the Blue Flag is the Hellenic Society for the protection of Nature.

 

    The criteria evaluated in order to award the Blue Flag include environmental education and information, the quality of the waters for swimming, proper environmental management, security and the presence of a lifeguard, first aid and the services and general establishment for the security of bathers.

 

    The hotel is open from end of April until mid October every year for the past 43 years! Our customers have the tendency to return year after year, while some even visit twice during the same season!

 

    The property is one of rare natural beauty which has remained untouched by time. Building additions and renovations have not distorted the first impression for the visitor, that of a virgin paradise.

    Their size is 40 sq meters, they have two rooms and their distance from the sea is 100 meters at most. The balconies have a view of the bay, the lit swimming pool, and the beach. They are furnished and decorated in minimal, Scandinavian style.

 

Sea Front Suites

    45 sq meters in size they are made up of two rooms (living room and bedroom). Their privileged status is ensured by their proximity to the beach and the magnificent view of the Aegean sea.

Restaurants

Sirens Restaurant

    Our a la carte restaurant "Sirens" is built of wood and stone and hid in the trees a few feet away from the sea, with a view of the gulf and the island opposite. Its specialty is greek cuisine with Mediterranean influences.

    Greek cuisine with its emphasis on simple recipes based on ingredients of excellent quality is now days widely considered as one of the best, and healthiest, ways to eat. Due to its widespread local production both in various meats, vegetables and, of course, extra virgin olive oil, Thassos is an ideal place for high quality creative greek cuisine. Taste is enhanced by the use of local herbs like oregano, garlic, mint, dill, parley, bay leaves, thyme, cinnamon, rosemary, clove, nutmeg and also the world renowned saffron produced in the nearby region of Kozani.

    Emphasis is given to seafood and fresh fish from the fishermen of Thassos. The wine selection is wide and up to date with the new offerings from greek vineries and wine producers, in tune with the rising profile of greek wine internationally.

    We recommend a meal during the moon rising - it is an excellent combination of beauty both in your plate and around you!

Dioskouri Restaurant

    Dioskouri restaurant is situated under the plane tree. The tables are under the big vine arbor, which offers shade and coolness during the summer months. Naturally the restaurant, like everything else in Makryammos, has a lovely view to the sea, whereas the indoors is simple and airy - there is naturally air conditioning for extra coolness!

    You can begin your day at Dioskouri with your choice of breakfast depending on your day: you may prefer a light, fruity meal or the real deal. The buffet is rich and offers a selection of bacon, eggs and sausage, fresh fruit and juices, cereal, marmalade and jam, honey and home made biscuits from our kitchen, cheese and various ham and salami, as well as a selection of bread from the local bakery.

    Breakfast is served between 07.00 - 10.00 a.m.

    The kitchen then closes in order to prepare for dinner, also served in a buffet. The menu is basically traditional greek cuisine using the ingredients abundant in nature: olive oil, bread, grain and dairy products, vegetables and legumes, fish, poultry and the free range meat of Greece, lamb and kid meat.

    To complement your meal you will find a selection of greek cooking, side dishes and salads, as well as, on certain nights, a fully organised barbeque: fish, meat and poultry are grilled in the traditional way, in the garden under the plane tree. We place great emphasis on the smells: as always in greek cooking, savoury remains simple, using only herbs to complement and bring out the original taste.

    For desert we recommend fruit and pastry from our pastry chef.

    Dinner is served between 18:30-21:00 pm

 

Conferences & Events

    Makryammos Bungalows is an ideal place to organize social events, as well as conferences, seminars and meetings for up to 150 people.

    Our facilities are fully equipped with the latest in audiovisual technology, video and slide projectors, as well as digital technology (laptops, dvd & Tv players). Past conferences organized at Makryammos include the 8th Panhellenic Conference of Astronomy (2008), The Panhellenic Oncological Conference (2007), the Balkan Conference of Telecommunications as well as the presentation of the campaign for the tourist promotion of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in 2005.

    The hotel is in charge of the catering, with welcome buffets, coffee breaks and meals, as well as the live entertainment of the guests with music and traditional greek dances, in order to provide the perfect mix of business and pleasure.

Makryammos for Children

    Makryammos is designed to please kids of all ages: we want smaller ones to have their most memorable holiday, while the elder ones find the time to rest and relax. We make it a priority to offer a wide variety of activities for all the members of the family, in addition to activities designed for kids exclusively, without their parent's supervision.

    A full-proof playground for kids up to 12 years old is situated near the beach, while the shallow sea, in addition to being safe for kids gives them the feeling of security. A lifeguard is always present. We also recommend games by the sea, like the trampoline and the pyramid.

    A baby pool (with sweet water) is situated right next to the pool, and the mini club makes sure there are plenty of different possibilities for creative and happy hours full of games. The mini club has children’s books in many languages and for a variety of ages, as well as many other activities, always under the supervision of the au pairs provided by the hotel.

    The Mini Club is a meeting place for kids in order to organize their daily activities. Depending on the day it could be treasure hunt in the grounds of Makryammos, or beach soccer, fishing, sculpture competition in the sand and face painting, always under the discreet but firm supervision of the au pairs provided by the Hotel.

    The au pairs speak Greek, English, German.

    For children growing up in the cities Makryammos is a controlled natural paradise, where they can see deer and peacocks in the singular zoo of the Hotel. The animals have been living and reproducing in relative freedom, in their enclosed hill a few yards from the resort's beach, for more than two decades!

 

Scuba Diving in Makryammos

    Beginning in 2007 Makryammos Bungalows initiated a successful collaboration with the diving center Macedonia, organizing the "Discover diving" lessons.

    The lessons provide an excellent opportunity for those who have no prior diving experience to experience the magic underwater, by practicing scuba diving under the guidance of trained and certified professional divers. We recommend it as a family activity (only for children over 9 years).

 

In addition to the beach and the pool...

    You can play tennis, pool, ping pong, beach soccer and volleyball, or try your luck in the basketball court.

    For the more outdoorsy types, the area around Makryammos, starting with the trail next to the hotel property is ideal for walks in the shade of the trees. The footpaths are ideal for jogging and mountain biking.

    We recommend the walk through the footpath of the Acropolis of the ancient city of Thassos through the Ancient Theater, about 15 minutes from Makryammos, which leads to the upper edges of the town of Limenas. The walk is ideal for moonlit summer evenings, and is about 30 minutes downhill.

    There are also many opportunities for horseback riding in Thassos, as there are a variey of small riding clubs and horses...
